The Westridge Curling Club has been a staple in the community of Stony Plain since 1958. We have had thousands of curlers come through our doors and become part of our curling family. We watched children of our members become junior curlers and have had members achieve successes in Zones, Regionals, Northerns, Provincials, National Competitions and even the Scotties. We have hosted teams from all over Canada at our bonspiels. We hosted Wang Bingyu from China's Women's team, the Finland Men's team and shared hosting of the Alberta Winter Games 2012. We have lost members and gained new ones. Our rink was a home away from home for many. It was a place to relax, laugh and build new friendships. It was special.
Sadly, on June 23, 2021, our beloved curling rink caught on fire and burned down. It is a devastating loss to our community and our curling family. Fire crews fought tirelessly to save our rink, however, with the heat and the wind were unsuccessful. Thankfully no one was hurt, and there was no other properties damaged in the blaze.
Yes, we lost A LOT. There were irreplaceable items and mementos inside; picture's, trophies, albums, but our curling family is strong. We are more than the building we played in. We are resilient, we are fighters and we will come back. Better than ever.
Help us to bring our club back to life. We have a community that wants to curl. We just need to rise from the ashes and build a new home for our curling family.
Thank you for all your support. There are not enough words to show our gratitude to everyone who has reached out wanting to help.
