Weston Hunter, a 5-year-old from Alexander ND, full of life and spunk, tested positive for the flu the day after Christmas. Things started to get better for a couple of days. On Friday, December 29th Weston began having fevers and aches again. On New Year's Day Weston was brought to the emergency room in Williston and later that night was life-flighted to Billings St, Vincent's Pediatric ICU with group A strep sepsis. While being treated for that, Weston's clinical picture became very complicated and showed signs of atypical Kawasaki's Disease. He was then treated with IV-IG. He began showing slow improvement but unfortunately then suffered a seizure which prompted a 24-hour EEG and MRI. The MRI showed an infected fluid collection involving the left side of his brain causing increased intracranial pressure. This prompted an emergency neurosurgery.
At this time Weston remains in the pediatric ICU for further treatment including ventilator management. The length of how long Weston's recovery may take is undetermined. There will be therapy needs as well as extensive follow-up appointments with neurology and neurosurgery.
All of this will take a financial toll. As close family and friends, we want to help! All funds raised through this account will be dispersed to the Hunter family for medical bills.
