Support West Coast Trungkar 2022 (& GCM Gold Cup)
We are excited to announce that the Tibetan Association of Northern California (TANC) will host this year’s West Coast Trungkar (birthday celebration for His Holiness the Dalai Lama) from July 1-3, after two long years of postponement due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
West Coast Trungkar 2022 is slated to be the largest-ever gathering of its kind for Tibetans in North America. People from across the continent, spanning from coast to coast, will participate in the event. Attendees will enjoy an exciting three-day schedule of events, including cultural performances, debate, elocution, talent contests, and basketball and soccer tournaments. As a special addition, TANC has partnered with the Tibetan National Sports Association to include the most popular and prestigious Tibetan soccer tournament, the Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial (GCM) Gold Cup, as part of West Coast Trungkar. During this tournament, scouts will select the members of the first official North America Tibetan National Soccer Team.
West Coast Trungkar is always a special occasion for people to come together to celebrate His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Tibetan community and culture. It is a reminder of our community’s strength and resilience, despite what we have endured – and this year is no exception. The COVID-19 pandemic has affected our community in many ways, including halting all in-person events for much of the past two years. Despite these difficulties, we remain hopeful and aim to come back stronger than before with this impactful event.
However, the cost of organizing an event of this scale requires your generosity. We have a kind donor who has agreed to match all donations up to $10,000 USD! That means, for every dollar you commit, our donor will do the same – so your gift is doubled! Your donations will help TANC preserve and celebrate Tibetan language, culture, and community, and bring West Coast Trungkar to the next level! With your support, let's make this year’s celebration better than ever!

*TANC was founded on July 6th, 1990 on the auspicious birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, by Tibetans residing in the San Francisco Bay Area. The founders shared a common vision of a single organization to help meet the needs and challenges of all Tibetans living in Northern California. TANC’s mission is to pursue with dedication the common goal of the Tibetan people — including activities to promote the Tibetan language and culture — under the guidance and leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and to recognize and respect the Central Tibetan Administration as the legitimate representative of the Tibetan people.
