The mission of the Westchester Barber Academy is to develop aspiring barbers with the necessary skills needed to serve as community minded independent contractors and entreprenuers. As a newly formed corporation we strongly believe in the chinese proverb, that "if you give a man a fish, you feed him for the day. If you teach him how to fish, you feed him for life".
Westchester Barber Academy is committed to teaching aspiring barbers how to "fish for themselves". Aspiring barbers include: students as young as 12 years old and older (after school program), youth seeking career alternatives, at risk youth, career changers, recitivists, college bound students and unlicensed barbers.
Westchester Barber Academy currently functions at two levels:
1) After school barbering program (ages 12 and up)- It is our belief that if you teach a child a trade or skill while (s)he is "impressionable", if maintained through adulthood, this skill becomes 2nd nature.
2) Custom site visits -Our program conducts customized visits to nursing, rehabilitation and group homes where residents may be confined to a location.
In the fall of 2017, we will be opening a barber school, in Mount Vernon, NY!! In order to be considered as an applicant, the NYS Bureau of Proprietary School Supervision needs proof of evidence of funds for the first year of operating expenses to accompany our initial application. We are seeking to raise $100,000 (as cost of 1st year operating expenses). These operating expenses include, but are not limited to: rent and utilities, capital improvements, furniture, student supplies/curriculum, marketing campaign, and instructor salaries.
Solidifying operating expenses for the first year of existence gives our organization the jumpstart it so desperately needs! No contribution is too small! Thank you for taking the time read and I thank you in advance for your contribution!
