In the past weeks, Sumatra, Indonesia has been hit with a severe tropical cyclone, causing severe floods and damages to local communities. Many people have lost their homes, livelihoods, and loved ones. Roads for transport and infrastructure have been damaged, making it nearly impossible for people to access food and water.

Our goal is to raise funds to build shelters for vulnerable populations that have been affected, including women, children, and people with disabilities. These shelter units will include full sanitary facilities (water tanks, toilets, etc.) to provide these communities with a safe, clean space after their homes have been damaged. The community aims to have two shelters established by January 31, 2025 before fasting for Ramadan begins.

I have close personal relationships with communities in West Sumatra, and creating this fundraiser is one of the ways they have asked me to help them. This project is also supported by a local NGO in West Sumatra, Cahaya Maritim, which works closely with indigenous and local populations around the world.
