We are walking the 96 miles of the West Highland Way in 8 days to raise funds for cancer support charity Maggie's, in honour and memory of Amanda Blake.

Maggie’s helped our family through the hardest time we’ve faced.
Now it’s our turn to help Maggie’s to support other’s affected by cancer.

What are we doing?
This September, we will be heading to Scotland to walk The West Highland Way. The route is a tough 96-miles through the Scottish Highlands, running south to north from Milngavie in Glasgow to Fort William. Each day, we’ll walk up to 15 miles through strenuous conditions, combining steep mountains, countryside parks, the shores of lochs and vast moorlands.

Who’s Involved?
Walking The West Highland Way will be Amanda’s partner Alex, youngest daughter Saskia, her partner Joe, Alex’s sister Toni and her partner Ashley. Back home, Amanda’s eldest daughter Amy and her partner Matt will be monitoring our fundraising efforts and (hopefully!) providing updates on our progress along the West Highland Way. We like to think Amanda will be cheering us on (and laughing at our poor navigation skills) from above, too!

Why Maggies?
We lost Amanda to bowel cancer in July 2020.
Her cancer was aggressive, with just eight months between her diagnosis and her passing. Throughout that incredibly difficult period, made even harder by the fact that it was during the pandemic, Maggie’s were by our side.

They answered questions we didn’t want to be asking, helped us understand the reality of living with cancer, offered advice on the physical, mental, emotional and financial toil that terminal illness has on a family and metaphorically held our hands the whole time.
In the time since Amanda passed away, we have had free bereavement support on a regular basis. It’s made this awful reality easier through counselling, psychological therapy and support groups, as well as providing us with access to round the clock online advice whenever we need it.

What will the money be used for?

The money we raise for Maggie’s will be used to make the biggest possible difference to people living with cancer, their family and their friends. To carry out its life-changing work, Maggie’s relies on voluntary donations. It uses donations to support and grow its network of 26 centres, which are built in the grounds of NHS cancer hospitals across the UK. Donations also allow the charity to further develop and keep delivering its unique, high quality programme of support – free of charge to those affected by cancer.

Please help us in our efforts to fundraise for Maggie’s.  Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
Cancer is a horrible disease that affects 1 in 2 people. Together, we can help support those who are unfortunate enough to experience it.
