West Family Medical/Ongoing Costs

Donation protected
April 25th our life shifted straight off the tracks.  We found out that Wes had blood clots in his right lung, and has significant damage to his lung due to the lack of blood flow to that blocked area.

On around the 20th, Wes started having pain in his right side whenever he breathed in. At first he thought it was a pulled muscle. After two days, the pain went away for a day, but came back on the 23rd and was more severe. Wes was not able to sleep due to the pain and was having problems breathing in deeply. The night of the 24th, the pain became too much so he decided it was time to go to the Emergency Room.

At the ER, they did a CT scan and it revealed multiple blood clots (above). They also found that some of the clots had blocked blood flow to areas of the lung, and had permanently killed off some of the lung tissue (below).

We spent Addie's birthday, the 25th together in the hospital and had some ice cream cake while the doctors ran tests on Wes trying to determine where the clots originated. It wasn't the most ideal birthday, but at least we were together.

Wes was discharged from the hospital on the 26th and given a prescription for some blood thinning medication that he is going to be taking for either the next 6 months, or the rest of his life, depending on the results of some further blood testing. The cost of the medication is $500 a month.

A few days after this whole ordeal, we were at a Dr appointment  with Addie so she could start getting seen for some depression issues she has been dealing with the past few months. She has been suffering with depression for a while since the loss of a friend due to suicide. Our family has lost some close friends over the recent years and this most recent friend of Addie's has been really hard on her. While we were at the appointment, she broke down and let the doctor know that she didn't feel she trusted herself to not harm herself right now and she felt that she needed to be admitted to the hospital for help.

We took Addie to the Emergency Room where she was admitted and met with a crisis team and evaluated. She was given some medication to try and balance out her mood and came up with a safety plan. She was then released back to us for a modified 72 hour hold where she was to be supervised at all time.

Both of these hospital visits are going to max out the individual deductibles for our medical insurance plan. There will also be many on going doctor visits and testing for Wes, along with the medication each month. Addie is awaiting her appointments with therapists at the moment and we will continue with the therapy for as long as needed until she gets the help that she needs.

We are asking for help with the burden of the medical expenses  that will be coming with these two life altering events. Whatever is donated will be used for ongoing treatment from now until both of them are healthy and we are back on the tracks moving forward again.

Thank you for the love and support given to our family during this difficult time, we appreciate all of you!
