Wesley's Short Film Fund

Hi, it's Wesley Jean-Pierre. As you all know I’m working on my Master of Fine Arts at Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema at Brooklyn College which is supported by filmmakers and artists such as Ethan Hawke, Steve Soderbergh, and Darren Aronofsky.

As part of the curriculum in my second year, I have to do a short film, and I also have to make a film for my thesis.

As a Haitian-American filmmaker, my dream is to tell stories that reflect the complexities of the diaspora in which I was raised.

Although I grew up in what can only be defined as a traditional suburban American environment.

I was a varsity football player and prom king. However, nonetheless, the influences of my Haitian upbringing have molded me into the man I am today. Growing up within this juxtaposition has enabled me to create these stories exploring identity, isolation, and genuine human connection.

My second-year film "Members Only", explores classicism within the Black community. The story revolves around a young West Indian immigrant named Marlene, who is exploited by an older, wealthier woman.

Later this year, I will also be in pre-production for "Star 67", my Thesis film which is a story that follows a young woman and how she deals with grief.
