Wesley's big yEAR!

The absolute best day of my life was also the hardest.

When Wesley was born missing his right ear it had literally felt like on day 1 of his life I had failed my son. Wes was born missing his right ear and ear canal entirely. He failed the hearing test in both ears at the hospital 3 times, I kept sending him back because I refused to believe that the entire pregnancy I was hoping  for 10 fingers and 10 toes and I had forgot all about two ears!

I left the hospital and not one of the doctors knew what Wesley's condition was even called. The first month of Wes' life we had no idea if he had any hearing at all and it was the hardest 30 days of my entire life. I walked around slamming doors trying to wake my sleeping baby, I was losing it in real life. May 20th 2015 was the day we found out Wesley was able to hear from his one big ear. That's all I needed. The first year of my sons life was swamped with doctors. We found out after Wes was born that he had an issue with his left kidney. If I wasn't already living the life of Brittney in 2007, the kidney news literally kept me up all night googling and crying. From Genetics to Birth to three and everything in between I was determined to figure out my kid and get him developing on track. August 20th 2015 his kidneys were cleared and if I never hit lotto a day in my life, lets consider that day to be my lotto day.

Fast forward 4 years later and Wesley is an incredible kid who has overcome every obstacle he's ever faced.

I spent a year going to doctors in Connecticut looking for someone to give Wes a 2nd big ear. I couldn't settle using his ribs to fix his ear with 5-6 operations to get it to look real. That was not an option I could be ok with. The lungs have those ribs there for a very good reason. One day while googling like a maniac, I found Dr Sheryl Lewin in California who was using 3d implants to fix ears in 1 operation with a rejection rate that was basically zero. It is her specialty and she focuses mainly on KIDS WITH MICROTIA. Once that fire started inside me, there was no telling me "NO". I made a promise to Wesley when he was 2 days old that I would get him a big boy ear and here I am 4 months away from doing just that.

September we are flying out to California to get Wesley his 3d Ear. If you've had  conversation with me in the last 4 years you'd know this surgery is all I ever talk about in real life. Everyone who knows me can tell you that I have busted my butt trying to save money to make this happen. With Doctor Lewin being an "out of network" surgeon, insurance coverage has been a battle.
