Wesley's Diabetes Journey

Donation protected
Hello Family and Friends and supporters of Wesley,

Last weekend, Neil and Ana noticed Wesley wasn't himself and with quick thinking and all too much experience, they thought to test his blood sugar and as suspected it was high. A lucky boy to have the parents he does, they were able to get him diagnosed with Type I Juvenile Diabetes quickly and on the road to his new life. He spent a few days at the Vancouver Children's Hospital getting regulated and is now set up to be treated as an outpatient.

For those who don't know what this means, Wesley (like his dad, who was diagnosed at 15) will now have to test his blood sugar multiple times per day as well as inject insulin 4 to 5 times a day. This will require very careful monitoring of all of his food and drink intake by his parents and carers, all day, every day, forever.

While we are all at a loss as to what we can do to help them succeed through this, I would like to take the opportunity to ask for your support in their financial success. As you can imagine, they have and will continue to take time away from their jobs and business to ensure Wes is well looked after and it is just an expensive time all around. Setting up new routines and habits. While it's great to be home and treated as an outpatient, the clinic is over an hour's drive each way, logistically and financially, it is a burden.

We have all watched Ana work to keep her restaurant open throughout the pandemic and have been proud to see her initiatives and pivoting to keep it running and available to her loyal community. She has put in so much extra time and effort to stay afloat over the last 2 years, often at a loss to her. Not to mention (but I absolutely WILL mention) how much Ana does to support others in her community, whenever she can. Ana does not shy away from putting herself out there, or giving more than her fair share to anyone in need.

As they are not the type to ask for help, I really hope that we (their community!) can show them how much their family, friends and supporters are here for them and want nothing but a normal life and success for Wesley now and in his future. At only 4 years old, it is a tough diagnosis to have, but we know that Ana and Neil are equipped to help him have the best life that he can! Here's hoping that in his lifetime a cure will be real!

Thank you for taking the time to read this, share this, donate . . . whatever you can will help and be felt. I can't tell you how much these 3 people mean to us all <3
