Wes Riggins Memorial Benches For Favorite Places

Wes Riggins was a beloved Scoutmaster of Orinda BSA Troop 233, and both his sons earned their Eagle Awards. Wes loved the outdoors and led the Troop on many hiking and camping events. He served as a wonderful role model for many young men in the 5 years he was with the Troop. He loved and regularly hiked the Lafayette Rim Trail. Wes joined the Lamorinda CERT group as an instructor and was also heavily involved with the CAL-OES Explorer Search and Rescue Team, which later transitioned into CALSAR. His expertise, honed through years of Scouting, enabled him to serve in various capacities, most notably as the Unit Leader for several years. A gifted instructor and commendable leader, Wes was involved in many rescues from Marin to Yosemite National Park. He not only derived fulfillment from assisting people in perilous situations but also deeply valued the camaraderie among his CALSAR teammates.

He passed on August 26, 2023 in Durango, CO with his family by his side. His Scouting and CALSAR families in Orinda are planning to donate funds to EBMUD'S Lafayette Reservoir to install a permanent bench at a lookout along the Rim Trail. His family also wants to install a memorial bench near his home on a trail along the Animas River in Durango. Please donate to make these memorial benches a reality!
