Family and Friends,
Most of you have heard by now that in the early morning hours of January 12th, the home of Peter, Sue, Josh, and Aaron Werner (My Aunt, Uncle, and Cousins) caught fire. Thankfully everyone and their pets made it out of the home safely thanks to their smoke detectors alerting them to the fire that had started in the basement. Unfortunately, the fire has caused extensive damage and the home is uninhabitable.
What makes this story more heartbreaking is that this wasn't just a house...it was a home, know as "1204", built by "Pa" Werner himself in 1952. "Ma" and "Pa" Werner opened their home to all of their family as well as extended family without question, welcoming many
get-togethers and celebrations. Everyone has been there at one point and time in our lives and have fond memories of this home and being together. Ma and Pa Werner unfortunately passed away in 2008 and Pete, Sue, Josh, and Aaron moved into this home to continue raising the next generation of great-grandchildren. Josh's sons Ian and Josh II were also being raised in this home. Christmas was just last month and the children lost most of their Christmas gifts in the fire.
Every house is important, every fire is devastating, materialistic things can be replaced, but it is sad to see a house destroyed that was so affectionately loved by so many. On behalf of the Werner family, I am starting this GoFund me page to assist my aunt, uncle, cousins, and 2nd cousins to get back on their feet until they are able to find a new home. I can not even imagine what it would be like to lose most of your belongings. Again, materialistic things can be replaced but just think about the every day items we have and use and take for granted....clothing, toiletries, healthcare products/medicine. These items definitely add up.
I'm asking our family and friends to come together and show your strength and support for the Werner family as they need you more than ever right now. If you're able to make a monetary donation, please do so as it would be greatly appreciated. If you're in the CT area and can donate any items, Im sure they would be appreciated as well.
