My name is Eleanor Cho and I am a Korean American writer, director, and graduate of the Film and Television production major at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. As a filmmaker, I am dedicated to writing and directing stories of underrepresented communities, and highlighting the extraordinary stories of ordinary people.

My award-winning short films have screened at film festivals around the world such as the Transatlantyk Film Festival in Poland, Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Cleveland International Film Festival, Boston Asian American Film Festival, NFFTY and more. I am grateful to have been a part of Creative Visions’ Women Excel Project, Visual Communications’ Armed with a Camera Fellowship, and the ABC Women’s Initiative. These experiences provided me with valuable support systems and mentors that have shaped me into the filmmaker I am today. Meanwhile, I worked as a Writers’ PA on a new HBO show, THE NEVERS, created by Joss Whedon. I also worked as a temp executive assistant for HBO’s SVP of Production on shows such as WESTWORLD, THE DEUCE, and HIS DARK MATERIALS.

However, I had to put my career on hold and moved back home when my mom was diagnosed with Stage IV Breast Cancer in 2019. I have been one of the primary caretakers/translators for her since then, and during this time at home, I worked on my scripts and applied to fellowships on the side. I recently got accepted as 1 of 50 filmmakers from around the world for the Werner Herzog Film Accelerator Fellowship in the Colombian Jungle . This is an incredible, once in a lifetime opportunity where I will develop and shoot a short film from April 24th to May 4th under the guidance and supervision of the incredible director, Werner Herzog.

Currently, the tuition for the fellowship is out of my budget and so I am searching for grants and sponsors that could possibly help me pursue this fellowship. The money will go towards the tuition for the workshop, accommodation, transportation, and production of the film. This fellowship will provide me with the resources to help me continue to grow as a filmmaker. I would be so thankful for any help that I can get.
