We Remember Maxwell Maier

For those of you who were graced by my brother’s presence, you are a better person for knowing him. Our beloved Maxwell passed away too soon on October 14, 2016.
My brother accomplished more than most people in a lifetime. He learned from his past and grew into the strongest man I’ve ever known. His time with us was much too short but the impression he left is distinctive. He created friends wherever he went.
In our hearts we know that “Mad Max” achieved his dream of becoming a fireman and made us proud. His intelligence and ambition got him through fire science and paramedic school - one of the toughest fields. I remember watching him work through fire drills with his peers and recognized his short stature but was impressed by his immeasurable strength. He set the standard high for his daughter, Juliet, and will continue to inspire her to fulfill her dreams.

Max had an inner drive to always keep improving. He only had positive things to say about the veterans who created Crossfit Ragnarok and the friends he made there. He achieved so many personal goals, and pushed himself farther than he thought he could. Max was all muscle, but he possessed more than physical strength.

My brother was inspired to find faith after the loss of his close friend, Jeffrey. He was baptized and born again a couple of years ago. His faith reassured him of something greater than himself, and I know he believed. I remember him telling our family about it and he seemed to find some solace with the passing of his friend and was able to make some peace with his past.

Maxwell shined the brightest as a father. I remember how proud he was when Juliet was born and how much his life changed for the better. Some of his strength turned into a softer, more nurturing side and she gave him the most precious of gifts. I am so comforted by the memories he made with his “#1 girl” and how she will forever be reminded of the thoughtful, and loving daddy she was blessed with.

This time of mourning may always be present and I know our lives have changed, but I wish for my brother’s memories to be held in our hearts and always cherished.
With that being said, I have two requests of those of you who are able:
1) Please write my brother a letter. I know that sometimes words are difficult to say, so the personal thoughts you would like to share with him can be given to him, in a confidential manner, as he rests in peace.
2) During this unexpected loss, I ask that you help my family by supporting us through unforeseen expenses. If you are able to contribute, I ask that you donate to our fundraising account to help relieve some of the financial hardship and establish a savings for Juliet.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
Max made everyone a better person by simply being the man he was. I hope you hold on to your loved ones and cherish the moments you have with them because time is the most precious gift of all. Give your time to people and causes you care for, and find love in the world around you - its everywhere.
Thank you for taking the time to read our campaign and support our cause.
My brother’s service will be held on Friday, October 28th at 11:30 am at Arlington Park Cemetery and Funeral home, followed by a reception at the Scottish Rite on Hubbard Street. Letters can be mailed to 2146 Knottingham Trace Lane Jacksonville, Fl 32246.
Thank you...love,
- Mallory
