The Wilson Family is almost always first on the scene when neighbors are in crisis and need help in our Oreland, PA, community. Whether it’s volunteering for school fundraisers, organizing events for local sports, tending to sick friends, or watching a neighbor’s kids in a pinch, they step up every time with energy and humor uniquely their own.
Now it’s our turn to show Kristen and Mike this love and that we’re in it together with Mike’s second bout with cancer. Mike is again in for the fight of his life, having beaten non-Hodgkins’s lymphoma in 2020 while losing both parents to cancer in the same period. After a rapid health decline over the past few weeks and hospitalization that yielded few answers, Mike was finally diagnosed with T-Cell lymphoma and HLH (hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis). Now at Thomas Jefferson Hospital (Center City, Philadelphia), he’s on aggressive chemotherapy and in a clinical trial to which he’s starting to respond.
This journey is going to be a marathon and a sprint. Kristen has her work cut out for her, single-handedly caring for their three kids, running the household, her job, being at Mike’s bedside an hour away, all while navigating with the complex financial framework of insurance coverage, cancer care, clinical trials and more. Any money donated for this will directly assist with these logistics: out-of-pocket medical bills, his medications, lodging and parking when the family’s with Mike for longer stretches, and expenses for their children including the upcoming holidays.
With their outstretched hands, opened wallets, and lending ears, Kristen and Mike have shown us for years they won’t let us experience hardship alone. Let’s return the favor this holiday season and surround them with the village and community they helped create and have helped lovingly nurtured.
