Wendy McLin - CANCER WARRIOR- needs our help!

Think back to when you were a kid – there was always a bully somewhere in the crowd at school, wasn’t there? Now that you’re a grown-up, wouldn’t it feel good to help put a bully in its place, especially one that is attacking someone you care about? Cancer is without a doubt the nastiest, meanest bully on the playground, and for the past few years the person getting picked on is Wendy McLin.
Too bad for cancer because Wendy is a CANCER WARRIOR and continues to kick its butt EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It is a constant struggle trying to juggle everyday life with treatments, adverse reactions, additional diagnoses, multiple surgeries, having to be taken by ambulance to the ER due to a heart attack, blood clot in her lungs, ulcers, constant nosebleeds, breathing difficulties, refill after refill of prescriptions with sometimes horrible side effects, impact of job roles, increased vulnerability to illnesses such as COVID-19, long-term health consequences such as a permanently removed thyroid, neuropathy in her hands and feet, arthritis, monthly steroid shots in her hands, heart arrhythmia, hair loss, pain, and so much more. But here’s the thing. Because she is Wendy, one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet, she always has a positive outlook, continues to laugh that awesome Wendy laugh, and deals with each setback head-on.
Time to drop some major truth: If cancer doesn't crush you, the associated financial strain most certainly can. According to CNBC, “a new study from academic researchers found that 66.5% of all bankruptcies were tied to medical issues —either because of high costs for care or time out of work.” This isn’t a topic that people like to talk about, but it happens every day to people from all walks of life.
Wendy’s situation is no different. She has been fighting breast and thyroid cancers for the past 3+ years, and the tsunami of medical billing – cancer’s not-so-little sidekick – even with the best insurance fighting insurance claims is now another battle she and her husband Mac have been working hard to keep at bay for quite some time. In total the medical bills have been well over $2 million to date. While thankfully health insurance has covered a large portion of this amount, last year Wendy and Mac forked over $17,000 out of pocket, and in the past 8 months alone the amount has climbed to over $20,000 out of pocket with denied insurance claims.
With November bringing surgery #10 to repair damaged nasal cartilage caused by chemotherapy, followed by 3 - 6 months of physical therapy, we are hopeful there is an end in sight and this will be her last surgery. The good news is that YOU CAN HELP!
Join us in standing up to this bully and its greedy, evil sidekick. Let’s show Wendy that we have her back both emotionally and financially. You know she would do the same for any one of us. If we each just offered what we feel we can to help, it would make such a difference. Every single dollar helps! Have literally just $1? That would be great and truly appreciated. Can you do $25? $100? More? That would be fantastic and just as appreciated. Every dollar will go to out of pocket medical bills.
We love Wendy and want her to become healthy again. There has been such an outpouring of love and support from so many who know her and asked how they can contribute to helping. This page has been created for that purpose. Cancer may be a bully... but together we can demonstrate that LOVE WINS and we won’t let this hardship crush our amazing wife, daughter, sister, aunt, stepmom, friend, colleague, and neighbor.
