Wendy Burbine is a paragon of courage and strength. At the age of 54, she is a mother of 3 beautiful teenagers, and a dedicated labor and delivery nurse. She is the first to offer help and the last to ask for it.
So, today, we are asking for her.
Behind that beautiful smile is the heart of a warrior. She is fighting yet another battle, and we would like to let her not do it alone.
In 2015 Wendy was first diagnosed with HER 2+ breast cancer. She underwent a bilateral mastectomy followed by months of chemotherapy and radiation. She spent the next few years slowly healing and regaining her health. In December 2018 she was having difficulty breathing and her PET scan revealed that she had lung cancer which had metastasized to her bones. Her doctor gave her a 20% chance of survival. 12 months later, she is still fighting. She has chemotherapy weekly and struggles to maintain her full-time position as a labor and delivery nurse. Her insurance has declined to pay for treatment, stating her condition as "preexisting" and she was also denied long term disability. This single mother of three battles every week to not only work 3 twelve hour night shifts, but also support her family, and manage her chemotherapy treatments and declining health status.
Her financial struggles are burdensome. This is one way we can help relieve some of that burden and help her in her fight.
