Wendy's Financial Hardships with Stage 4 Cancer
Donation protected
If you don’t know me. I’m Katrina, Wendy’s oldest daughter. I’m asking for your help because I know my Mom will not ask for help. She’s always been a hard-working woman and has always helped those in need without expecting anything back. Since my mom’s Stage 4 cancer diagnosis, she has faced many financial hardships. She had to shutdown her in-home bakery, which was her source of income, to focus on her health. Recently she has faced additional and unfortunate hardships.
She has been prescribed medications to help her with the chemo side effects that insurance will not cover. She must pay out of pocket and these medications are expensive. She has to prioritize her finances and sometimes cannot get her medications and bares through the side effects which has worsened as she has gone through 10 rounds of chemo now. The chemo has taken a toll on her body.
Her only reliable car to get her to and from doctor appointments, take her youngest daughter to school and deliver her cakes broke down during the holidays putting more financial strain on her during an already stressful time of year.
This week her home, which is her childhood home that she purchased after her father passed away, is having electrical issues that are hazardous. At this time, she does not have the extra money to take care of these critical, potentially dangerous electrical issues.
Her utilities have also been extremely high because of the inefficiencies in her old home. I’m currently looking into local programs and writing to local contractors to see if she can get some assistance.
Her SSI has also been denied twice. She could use this extra income that she worked hard for to help with her terminal illness. We are currently trying to appeal once again.
Recently she started taking cakes orders again to help her financially. This is putting much strain on her mentally and physically. She doesn’t complain, she keeps pushing through, but I can see the wear and tear on her body as she pushes herself too hard. As she suffers from her chemo side effects, she will take orders and make cakes the day after her chemo treatments, which is every 2 weeks. I admire her pride and willingness to work for everything she has and needs, but I worry about her health and that she will deteriorate faster if she continues down this path. Her strength and willpower amaze me every day.
With much gratitude, I ask for your help because she won’t. That’s just the type of amazing person she is and always has been. Anything helps. If you can’t, I understand but please continue to pray for her during this difficult time. As always, we are truly blessed to have each and every one of you by her side providing support that she needs. All your support has been much appreciated and we’re forever grateful for all of you.
God Bless!
