Wendy's Solo Bach Project

Donation protected
We’re excited to announce that our beloved friend and family member, cellist Wendy Sutter, has been invited by the Perspectives Ensemble to record all of the Bach Suites live, in one day , for an online presentation in August.  Wendy will perform at Judson Church on August 23rd and the performance will appear internationally on Facebook, Instagram and other worldwide platforms. This performance will also be converted into downloads for purchase and the video will be available on You Tube.  There is already media interest!

Those of you who know Wendy and her career will remember that right out of Juilliard, she began performing the Bach Suites with The White Oak Dance Project. Jerome Robbins choreographed a now-famous piece,  ‘ A Suite of Dances’  for Mikhail Baryshnikov to dance solo, with Wendy sitting on stage with him, playing the suites. Their performance traveled internationally for six years and received outstanding critical acclaim and has been shown in the entrance to the New York Public Library for the past year on repeat.  Some of you may remember that a certain internationally renowned cellist – not to be named here ☺,  persistently asked to replace Wendy.  But, no, Robbins and Baryshnikov would have no one else! And now, Wendy has been asked to perform and record all the Bach suites …and we can’t wait!

Because of the pandemic, musicians are being challenged to transform their careers.  We are writing to you because we’re excited that Wendy has this opportunity to delve into a new way of sharing her music, off the concert stage. When she let us know that she needed funds to expand the press kit and publicity for this performance, we decided to reach out to others, hoping that you’ll feel like we do about her profound talent.  We want Wendy to continue to perform, to record, and even to make a little profit (as performing is where she earns her income) and to insure that she can continue to find a new stage during this strange time, to bless the world with her performances.

Another thing we want to remind you of is Songs and Poems. This astounding canon of work, composed especially for Wendy by Philip Glass, recording hit the number one slot on iTunes and was the highest selling classical music download for one week and was voted “BEST NEW CD of the YEAR , 2008“ by NPR’s listeners across the country. This recording garnishes worldwide acclaim to this day. This CD has sold nearly 85 thousand copies to date and Wendy has performed it nearly 100 times worldwide. Wendy’s performance makes this resonant work profound and unforgettable. In fact, Songs and Poems has been referred to by critics as “The Seventh Bach Suite.”

Will you help us support Wendy’s new efforts by contributing? It’s going to be fabulous!  It’s going to make a splash!  And, we want you to be part of it!

Wendy needs about $12,000.  This money will go to publicity and promotion and some of the performance expenses. Perspectives is covering all other costs.

Thank you for supporting the arts during this difficult time!  We hope you and your loved ones are staying well and safe.  As they say: no donation is too small or too large.  With much love and music in our hearts, we thank you!
