Hi friends of Wendy Matthys,
As most of you know, our friend Wendy, suffered a massive stroke at the end of November. She was in intensive care for over a week and had emergency brain surgery. As a result of the stroke, Wendy lost all of her mobility on her right side and is still in the process of regaining full mobility / functionality. She is on disability with Valero until May, 2018.
Wendy has made tremendous progress in the last couple of months and is now living in a rehab facility in San Antonio. She is able to walk, eat and read but still needs extensive therapy to regain full cognitive ability and speech.
She is able to express that she's anxious to go home (!) and that she doesn't like the food at the facility ha. But overall, the facility has been amazing and her coaches, including Debbie, Marilyn, and Lauren, are all helping her return to normal self.
The consensus is that Wendy can make a full recovery, provided she receives extensive physical therapy. As the adage goes, "use it or lose it," and the doctors have expressed that this is extremely relevant to Wendy's case.
As you all know, Wendy is strong and independent and is committed to working with these therapists daily. Unfortunately, this therapy is extremely expensive and insurance is limited. In addition, insurance was forcing Wendy into a nursing home in early February. Thanks to a few "anonymous angels" Wendy was able to stay at this facility through the end of February at the cost of $30,000 (yes - you read that right - it's that expensive and yes - she has already had very dear friends coming to her rescue).
We are reaching out for more financial support for our friend. Are you in?
