Join Wendy Green’s journey following an aneurysm & stroke

My friend Wendy is an amazing woman, Christ servant, loving wife and friend to all who are fortunate enough to come into her sphere of influence. Since August 21, 2020, she’s spent a combined total of 21 weeks in the hospital (much of that in ICU) undergoing 18+ procedures/surgeries, following a massive aneurysm and stroke, what should have been a catastrophic event. But God is a miracle worker & decided He wanted her here a while longer! Wendy is a fighter and a believer in the power of the Holy Spirit, so we ask that you join with us in prayer for her recovery, for the restoration of her vision, nerves & muscles to sync up and connect with her brain, to restore the use of her left arm and leg, hand-eye coordination, stability in walking & to give her back her infectious smile!
So many people, prayer groups and churches have asked, how can we help. If you feel so led, consider contributing to this effort to help. Mounting hospital bills that are now over $3 million (with yet another major surgery needed later this year to replace the titanium head plate). Having met their out-of-pocket limit in 2020 and already having to do that again this year (2021), the part that insurance has not covered is more than $20k & providers are pressing for payment. The Cobra Health Insurance coverage taken after Wendy’s termination from her job will end this year. They face having to obtain insurance from the Marketplace with an even larger price tag (well over $2,000/month) in addition to a much higher out of pocket limit. The hope is to get Social Security disability and then Medicare at some point, but there is a 2-year waiting period for that. Wendy not having Health insurance is not an option.
In the meantime, the goal is to help Wendy & Jeff navigate the financial burden they’re faced with so that their full focus can be on the task of getting Wendy back home and able to take care of herself. She will have to have someone with her 24/7 for about the first 4 weeks. So, if you would like to help – a contribution would be a great place to start! Wendy and Jeff so appreciate all the love, prayers & encouragement they’ve received over the last 7 months and look forward to the day when they can once again spend time with friends and family.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t give a huge shout out to Wendy’s husband Jeff, whose love for her is an inspiration for all of us as he honors the vows, he made to Wendy just three years ago. For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part… Jeff is an Ephesians 5: 22-23 husband.

Timeline of Wendy’s Journey
August 21, 2020 Early that Friday morning, my sweet friend and sister in Christ, Wendy, collapsed just before her husband Jeff was about the leave the house for the day. Ten minutes later and he would have been gone. After calling 911, the EMTs arrived within 5 minutes and took her to the stroke unit at Skyline Hospital in Nashville, TN where doctors determined she had an aneurysm & stroke, necessitating an emergency surgery to remove part of the skull to relieve swelling, coiling the aneurysm to stop the bleeding and remove the intercranial hematoma caused by the ruptured aneurysm. Doctors said most aneurysms are about 4mm, hers was a massive 16mm!
Wendy was in a coma and doctors initially recommended a “do not resuscitate order” and just keep her comfortable. With deep prayer, her husband felt called to fight for his wife and along with her parents rescinded that order. Many hundreds of friends and family prayed over her in the weeks following, waiting for her to wake up which she did! But imagine waking up and realizing that you have lost 3 weeks of your life. You no longer know how to talk, write, walk, balance, track with your eyes, eat, swallow... it's a difficult thing. Being the fighter that she is, Wendy pushed through all the challenges that were before her.
October 1, 2020 After 6 weeks in the hospital and physical therapy, Wendy was able to go home (still needing full time care) and began outpatient physical therapy as well as speech & occupational therapy. Her journey to overcome some huge mountains continued over the next few months and she made great progress, even being able to enjoy a date night out for dinner in December!
December 23, 2020 This was an exciting day as Wendy headed back to the hospital for surgery to place a titanium plate over the area where the skull bone was removed during her first surgery. So much progress had been made and hopes were high for getting this surgery behind her to bring her closer to a more complete recovery. Surgery was successful & she was discharged on the 26th.
January 6, 2021 - current This day brought a trip back to the ER after Wendy developed a fever, drainage from the area where the plate was placed, and lots of pain and nausea. Battling an unrelenting infection, Wendy underwent several more procedures & surgeries (including removal of the plate placed only 2 weeks earlier) and weeks upon weeks of antibiotics. These events set her back to August of last year as she lost most of the gains she’d made in her recovery. Once again, she’s working hard to climb back up the mountain. As of the first of April, Wendy was moved to the in-patient therapy floor within the same hospital where she will stay for several weeks. There is still a long journey ahead.
