My name is Suzanne Allayaud. I live in Los Gatos and have lived in Santa Clara County most of my life. I went to high school with Wendy. Several years ago, many of my high school alum reconnected including Wendy. I will never forget at one of the recent ladies' luncheons, she commented that she "finally gets to hang out with the cool kids!" We are children born in the 50's and cutting our teeth in the 60's. We are there for each other. I felt a special bond with Wendy since she was a paralegal, as I am. She was working to protect animals; I am working to protect
humans.
Wendy has lost her home, and everything in it, to the Camp Fire. She only recently retired and moved to a community where she knew she could enjoy the outdoors and be close to her daughter in Chico. Although insurance, etc. will cover some of her losses, she will need funds to cover unexpected expenses. She has temporary housing but has no idea where she will settle permanently.
I started Wendy's GFM page through out Willow Glen High School class of 1970 Facebook page (WGHS Rams Class of 1970). Thanks to Facebook, not only did WGHS alum contribute but many of Wendy's friend and past co-workers. The contributions have far exceeded what I had anticipated!!!
Wendy was not living "high on the hog" nor was she "rolling in dough". Moving to Paradise allowed her to retire since home prices were so affordable she did not have to deal with a mortgage. Unfortunately, she recently took out a small second against her house to remodel her kitchen. The remodel was completed two days before the fire.
Wendy now has to find a new place to live and replace, literally, everything. If it was me in this situation, I would not even know where to begin! I have no doubt that Wendy will use her donated money with thoughtfulness and common sense, however, I do hope she gives herself a spa day and buys her dogs and cats some new beds and toys!
I have requested a withdrawal of funds to be deposited in my checking account and will be sending her a check as soon as the funds appear!
