WENDY FARR “FIGHT ON!” MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

On Saturday, February 22, 2020, Grandma Wendy Whitehead Farr finished her nine-month fight against an aggressive bladder cancer and returned in peace to her Heavenly Family.

Grandma Wendy was only 64 years old, happily married to Ken Farr for nearly 44 years, the mother of five sons and one daughter, Grandma to 16 amazing grandchildren (and counting…), and “Aunt Wendy” to hundreds.

This fund will provide financial support for Grandma Wendy’s family, and, in particular, will provide a memorial scholarship fund for the benefit of her 16+ grandchildren as a way to honor her, remember her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity, and encourage their higher education.  The Ken Farr family will be in charge of the funds. We love and miss her – and we thank you for any support that you can provide the family.  Fight On!

Fan, Family, Food, Fun

A native of Southern California, Wendy attended USC and worked as a dental hygienist for over 30 years.  She was a life-long sports fan, faithfully cheering for her USC Trojans, LA Dodgers, and LA Lakers.  More importantly, she was the biggest fan of her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews as they participated in soccer, baseball, and all kinds of watersports.

The Farrs moved their young family to Sandy, Utah when Ken started his career working on staff for Delta Airlines in SLC.  “Aunt Wendy” opened her home practically every weekend to host Sunday dinner for her nieces and nephews that were from out-of-state and attending college in Utah, or just passing through.  Everyone was always welcome.  Everyone was always loved.  Including friends, roommates, boyfriends, girlfriends, prospects, everyone!

I first met Aunt Wendy on Sunday, April 3, 1994 -- Easter Sunday.  I was a mere “prospect” on one of my first dates with her niece, later my wife.  One of the first things Wendy said to me when I met her – quoting a line from The Sound of Music – was “God Bless Kurt!”  The Farr family, food, fun, and love that I experienced on that day had a significant impact on my ultimate decision to marry into the family.  It had more to do with the family, fun and love, than it did with the amazing roast, mashed potatoes, and little Matt spitting out his chewed-up peanut M&Ms into my hand!

Over 25 years later, my college-aged daughters and their cousins are the ones still hosted by Aunt Wendy (and all the Farrs) for Sunday dinners – right up to the end – and beyond.  For over 40 years, Aunt Wendy selflessly blessed the lives of countless college students and friends by her friendship, generosity and love – providing a home-away-from-home for all.

Grandma Wendy loves her family so much.  Her 16 grandchildren are her pride and joy.  The oldest is 14.  The youngest is only weeks old.  I am so sad that they will not have the experience of Sunday college dinners with Grandma Wendy.  We hope that this Memorial Scholarship Fund for her grandchildren will help them remember how amazing their Grandma is, and how much their Grandma Wendy loves them and cares for them, during such a crucial time in their lives.  I am hoping we can give them each at least $1,000, or maybe $2,000 or more, just to get them started.  Any amount donated is greatly appreciated.

On one of our big family vacations at Lake Powell, I happened to be wearing a “Rip Curl” surf t-shirt.  Aunt Wendy lovingly and jokingly added a piece of tape, to cross the “L” making it a “T” – hence “Rip Curt!”  She thought that was hilarious.  I love and miss her so much.

RIP Wendy!  …  Fight On!  …  and God bless Wendy!
