We have shifted the focus of this GoFundMe campaign to support my sister Wendy as she goes through a second kidney transplant process. Seven years ago our father donated his kidney to Wendy, and that gift gave her another seven years of life.
Seven extra years of life. Those years were priceless. Wendy was able to see her twins graduate high school and enter college. She was able to meet her granddaughter Lyla, a perfect angel with a 24 carat smile. She saved the life of Lucky, a rescue dog who has returned the love tenfold. But the best thing about those seven years is that WE got to spend them with Wendy. WE are the lucky ones to have her still with us.
While the kidney donation process is a very rewarding one for the donor, it can put a strain on the donor's wallet. Weeks away from work. Travel costs. Financial assistance does exist for potential donors, but only if you can demonstrate an extreme hardship. Most donors have to pay their own way.
Please give all that you can. Your donation will help Wendy live so that she can do things like attend her twins' college graduation and see her grandaughter start elementary school.
I am donating for much more selfish reasons. The world, and my life, is a much better place with Wendy in it.
