This all started with just a stomach ache that would not go away no matter what our mom did. In early October, Wendi had enough of the stomach ache and went into urgent care thinking it was a stomach ulcer. At first, they knew something was blocking her gallbladder based on her symptoms and lab values. They then did further tests that included an MRI and CT scan and found a tumor on the head of the pancreas. Sadly, a few days later, we were informed that it was a staged 2/3 pancreatic tumor.
The next few days were very difficult for us as we received test after test, waiting to find out from the doctor if the tumor was operable. Not to mention, she was only allowed to have one person with her in the hospital and no one could be with her from 8 pm to 8 am every night due to COVID restrictions. After lots of praying from family and friends, the doctor told us the tumor is operable and that she was eligible for chemotherapy.
Wendi decided to undergo chemotherapy, which has been a positive step toward recovery. It has not been easy for her, however. She often experiences nausea, burning stomach pain, fatigue, insomnia, cramping, tingling fingers, and has lost a lot of hair. She is currently undergoing her third treatment of chemotherapy and still has at least eight more treatments to go over the course of the next four months. Following chemotherapy, she will then have six weeks of radiation every day, take a break, and then have four more rounds of chemotherapy over the course of two months.
Wendi has a long journey ahead of her, but she has been so strong. Her treatment and symptoms often cause her to miss work, and we hope that fundraising with our #StrongerTogether bracelets will allow her to focus on her treatment journey, not financial stress. Thank you in advance for your generosity. Please pray for our mom and family. We have one strong mama and we know she can beat this.
Thank you again! We will update the page as we continue this journey with her. #StrongerTogether
