Wendell Jones Total Loss/ Building Fire Recovery

Last night, during the first major storm
of our winter season, our friend and brother Wendell’s entire apartment building was engulfed in fire and completely destroyed. We are awaiting the report from Montclair’s fire department as to the cause. Most importantly, Wendell was not harmed.
Miraculously, Wendell had left 24 hours earlier to visit and care for his mom, who is living in Detroit. He had texted me earlier in the day, so- so- so happy to be able to shop for her groceries, and care for her in this way. I know from our friendship that Wendell’s being able to provide for his mom, after strenuously building a very unique mentoring profession, brick by brick, is a dream come true.
Wendell began receiving texts that his building was on fire, last night, Nov. 15th, around 6pm. I told him I would drive to the site, despite the winter storm and state wide emergency, to see if I could salvage any of his necessities. Then came the video.
Every single one of our friend’s valuables.. his medication. winter clothing. laptop and professional equipment used for career work. bed. desk. refrigerator. are destroyed and in ash. Wendell's library, a collection of masterful references and books curated over a lifetime, meticulously self indexed and outlined for professional application, the value of which he shared with everyone he coached, mentored and cared for, have been decimated. Texts ranging from Chinese medicine to modern psychology to the Yoga Sutras, each one a refined interpretation of study, gone. This is a loss for those of us closest to Wendell, including the people and seekers he has yet to meet.
Thankfully, our friend is a repository of knowledge, skill, resilience and good will. I believe that he will emerge from these events with even more wisdom and compassion to share. Now is the time to let our friend know how much we appreaciate his good heart and courage. Let’s do what we can. Any amount of help, helps. Thank you world, Namaste
