HOW LUCY CAME TO US
Prestige Stables puts horses first. Always. That's why, when we fell in love with Lucy, a potential boarder, and then found out that instead of coming to us she would be heading to auction--we bought her to save her. Her previous owner had purchased her not knowing that she needed an important surgery in order to be a productive riding horse. Sadly, this frequently happens in horse purchases, which is why it's always strongly recommended to do a vet check before committing to your new partner.

At only 8 years old, this registered Appendix mare is a gorgeous mover and has a potential long life in front of her of making lots of riders very happy. But we need your help to give her that life!

WHAT'S WRONG WITH LUCY?
Lucy needs a procedure called a tie-back surgery.  She suffers from recurrent laryngeal neuropathy (or RLN), commonly called "roaring" due to the sound of the horse's breathing with this condition. Essentially, some of the muscles of the larynx are paralyzed and flop over, blocking the airway.

Horses with RLN can live without surgery, but they can't be athletes. Lucy is young, absolutely stunning, has amazing gaits, and loves to work. She has tons of energy and would not make a good "backyard pet"--she needs to be exercised regularly for her own mental as well as physical health.

WHY PRESTIGE STABLES?
Kasandra Olson of Prestige Stables has rehabilitated numerous horses with challenging health conditions. From diagnosing an OTTB with a vitamin deficiency and putting ~150 much-needed pounds back on him in six months, to providing a stimulating yet safe environment for an AQHA suffering from HYPP, Kasandra has a gift for making (and keeping) horses in her care as healthy as they can be.  Lucy will be in the best opssible hands.

HOW WILL THIS MONEY BE SPENT?
Our trusted vet recommended we take Lucy to the Cummings Veterinary Medical Center at Tufts University.  Our goal of $4500 will cover the entire surgical procedure, a few days at Cummings for recovery, transportation to and from, vet visits to check up on her afterwards, and a small emergency pad in case anything goes wrong. Prestige Stables is a small business, and like most small businesses, on a tight budget--every dollar helps!

We would like to give Lucy her surgery before the end of the year so that we can keep her active through the coldest months. Especially when it get snowy and icy and being turned out outside might be dangerous for the horses, it is especially important to be able to work the horses consistently inside, whether on the lunge line or under saddle. Lucy needs to be able to breathe fully and comfortably for us to work her enough to keep her healthy long term.

THANK YOU!
If you haven't met Lucy yet, please come by the barn in Georgetown to see why we're all crazy for her. In just the few short weeks we've had her, Lucy has learned how to be horse again--in her previous homes she did not get much socialization and spent most of her time indoors--and she is warming up to her new life beautifully. She has a sweet nature, LOVES treats, and wants to please.

We all love Lucy and know you will, too. If you can give anything at all, it would mean so much to the whole Prestige team.
