By Any Means Necessary: Jaylyn's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
UDPATE: Jaylyn was discharged from the hospital on April 19th. She was transferred to Physical Therapy Rehabilitation Center. She is improving everyday. Her primary goal is to get better and stronger. Please keep sending her your love.
On April 6, 2025 around 9:15 PM, my cousin Jaylyn McKinney was struck by a suspected drunk driver as she crossed the road in Downtown Houston near W Dallas Street. Emergency responders rushed her to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. As of April 12, 2025 she remains in intensive care, where doctors continue to monitor her critical condition around the clock.
Jaylyn, 26, recently graduated from the University of Houston in 2023 with a Bachelor's of Science in Political Science and Government. At UH, she was an active and beloved member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Sigma Chapter, where her sisters nicknamed her "By Any Means Necessary" because of her unwavering determination and resilience. That fighting spirit is serving her well now as she battles for recovery.
She's been working two part-time jobs - one at a law firm and another in the service industry - while pursuing her dream of becoming a lawyer. She recently took her LSAT and has been applying to law schools.
That night, she was simply out celebrating our cousin's birthday when the tragic incident happened. Now, Jaylyn faces a long recovery ahead. With no income from either of her jobs during this time, there is concern about covering her rent, bills, and basic living expenses - not to mention the medical costs beyond what insurance will cover.
Jaylyn has always been determined and hardworking. Yellow is her favorite color - bright and optimistic, just like her. She's been surrounded by support from family, friends, Delta sisters, and co-workers who have come to visit during this difficult time. Her law school dreams are now temporarily on hold as she focuses on healing.
Any contribution will help ease her financial burden during this difficult time. Your support means she can focus entirely on her recovery without the added stress of mounting bills. Truly any monetary value helps.
Thank you for helping Jaylyn on her journey back to health and toward her future in law. Anyone who knows her will tell you – when Jaylyn sets her mind to something, the universe better get out of the way. That stubborn determination earned her the nickname "By Any Means Necessary" long before this accident, and it's exactly what will carry her through this recovery.
