The Wellesley College Mock Trial team was founded in 2000 to provide students with the opportunity to learn about the work of trial attorneys, better understand the judicial system, develop critical thinking skills, and enhance communication and public speaking ability through participation in mock trials sponsored by the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA).
Each February, we send two teams to compete in AMTA's Regional tournament. Our teams consistently advance to the next round of national tournaments, Opening Round Championships (ORCs). If we do well at ORCs, we may earn a bid to represent Wellesley at the National Championships.
This year, we do not currently have sufficient funds to make it to Regionals, which will be held at Fordham Lincoln Center in Midtown Manhattan. We are short $1,500 of what we need to afford transportation and hotels in New York City.
Therefore, we are setting a goal of raising $1,500 by January.
We spend the entire year preparing a single case for competition at Regionals, and have worked towards this year's Regional since the start of the fall semester. We have attended Regionals every year of our existence, and it always offers us the valuable opportunity to apply the public speaking and legal skills we have developed over the academic year.
It would mean the world to our organization if you would pitch in, and help us represent Wellesley at Regionals this February.
