Welcoming My New Glass Eye
Donation protected
Very recently, in a moment that felt like it lasted an eternity, I lost sight in my left eye due to a traumatic injury which caused an ulcer on my cornea so big it covers my entire dilated pupil. To say I was devastated would be an understatement.
My life changed instantly. It may sound easy, but I'm going to have to relearn everything. But I am determined to not let this tragedy define me.
The state is being incredibly supportive throughout my rehabilitation process, sending nurses to come and help me with my daily needs. They also arranged for me to receive a service dog, specially catered to my condition, so I could eventually be able to get around the city. I can't wait to meet her, and introduce her to her feline sister, Lexie.
I will be moving to Astoria, Queens in the fall to a brand new apartment with an elevator and all. And that’s where you, my dear friends, come in.
I need your help to make this apartment my own, and one that will cater to my special needs. I need a sofa to sit on and curtains to keep the sun out. I already have a big, comfy bed to sleep in, a kitchen table to eat at, and a dresser to store my clothes. There are just a few things here and there that will help me acclimate to not only a new place, but a new place with this new way of living.
I understand if you are unable to donate much, but even a small donation to help me set up my new home will mean the world to me. Some of you may also be able to donate items that I may need, such as a sound system or computer. I would be forever grateful for any help you can provide.
Soon I will be receiving a glass eye to replace the one I lost, and I'm sure it will take some getting used to. But I know that with your help, I can turn this apartment into a home that I can be proud of. Thank you for your endless support and generosity.
