Welcome to Little E’s Journey

As some of you may know, Elijah David Durham was born 8/19/20, son of Brooke Holcomb & Sebastian Durham, in Cincinnati Children’s Hospital on placental support and has remained in NICU since with several different underlying issues, such as born with a blocked airway, which meant he had his first major surgery by week 1, Tracheostomy. Following a second surgery to the eyes by week 2 due to being born with no facial bones to create eye lids, and only patches of skull developed. Elijah was born with a skeletal birth defect that has remained undiagnosed as of today. All testing such as genetics has all came back negative. We were informed before birth there were some issues, but not to this extent, it was much more than the doctors ever expected. Daddy & Mommy were told they had a “Unique little bird”, and that is exactly what we have, so precious. Despite all the challenges Elijah faces every day, our little man has a such a huge personality, he is such a blessing that brings smiles to all that meet him. He shows his love & communication thru “TOUCH”, until he grows and gets some age on him, we will not be able to tell how much hearing & eyesight he will actually have in years to come. He is known for his style in the NICU, which earned him the name “Little Ladies Man”.
He has stolen the hearts of many doctors & nurses, no parent/grandparent is ever prepared for a situation such as this one, but one thing for sure, we are BLESSED! Only God knows from this point, and we as a family will continue to thank him for Elijah, watch him grow, hit milestones and bring pure bliss to all that know and love him.
Unfortunately, due to COVID, family is unable to be there to love & support them, only thru facetime and a camera that is put in his crib. Mommy has not left his side; she definitely has a momma’s heart and so in love with her precious gift from God. We are firm believers that all the TLC momma has given is why he is come so far despite his illness & complications. Daddy got to spend the first 14 days with his son, after being restricted back to Military base in South Carolina, COVID has put restrictions on him as well. COVID has hurt so many people this year, people are left alone in profoundly serious situations, makes it more than difficult.
This situation was definitely unexpected and in no way was we prepared financially and emotionally. We are raising money for Brooke & Elijah during their stay at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital & by not having a financial stress. Their stay could be 6 months up to a year depending on his health & accomplishments he makes along the way. We, the family ask those that can and who love & support them to help by donating, if possible, no amount is too small and very much appreciated from the bottom of our hearts. This year has been a tough one on everyone, we never know what each day holds, so those that cannot, all we ask is to please share our post & remember them in your prayers.
To those that has already contacted Brooke by phone, card, endless prayers thank you so much. Trust & believe Not a soul goes unnoticed. Our burden is lightened because of people like you, the outpour of love that has been shown is amazing. If you would like to contact Brooke by mail instead of on here, her address is:
