Hi, my name is Beth, I am a social worker on the safeguarding and care planning team in Children's social care. I work alongside my manager, Nicola, social workers; Francesca, Vimbai, George, Lisa, Ashleigh and students Rhia and Richard.

We are running the Manchester 10k on 31st May 2026 to raise money towards our "welcome into our care boxes" that Nicola leads on.

As a team, and a local authority we recognise that children and young people suffer great emotional distress when separated from their parents care and often, sadly don’t have understanding of why this has happened. Children in our care have spoken and shared…..

We are changing the entry into our care for the better!

Often our children come into care with little or no belongings, and sometimes are in a bin bag. Every child that comes into the care of the Local Authority will receive a Welcome into our Care box. These boxes will contain an information pack with information about who they can speak to; including contact numbers, what the role of key professionals is, including the social worker, IRO and the Guardian. Packs will also contain information about Kooth and the Children in Our Care Council.

Each pack will also include items, such as a notepad and pen, toiletries, teddy bear, blanket, book, fidget toys and sanitary products all altered to suit the age of the young person.
