Welcome Home Papa

After evacuating from the August 8th Lahaina fire, being displaced for three weeks in Maui Lani, and having been taken away from his normal routine and comfort, our 90 year old Papa Johnny Ramelb has suffered a stroke.

He was put in the hospital for 2 days and then released. One week later, he suffered another stroke. His wife Amalia of 63 years (who is 91), has been by his side through it all. After the ambulance took Papa to the hospital following the second stroke, he spent another two weeks in Maui Memorial Medical Center.

In the meantime, our home has been open to the community as a distribution center for all essential goods, starting as early as August 12. God graciously saved our home from the Lahaina fire and we have done everything we could to support others through this disaster. We have received and distributed thousands of household items, including over 500 air purifiers in the Upper Lahaina, Kelawea Mauka neighborhood.

We were just able to welcome home Papa yesterday and we now face challenges on his home care. We are waiting for openings at Hale Makua (Nursing Home/Rehab), but in the meantime, we are doing everything we can to take turns as a family sitting with Papa and making sure he is comfortable and all his needs are met.

With west Maui now open, we face challenges with returning to work at the hotels and more specifically having professional help available to Papa. Our hub's hours of operation have continued to change and we are no longer open on a regular schedule. We ask that whoever is able to please pray for Papa's strength and if you are able to give, anything will help.

All donations will be used towards hiring a professional home caregiver.
