High School French Class Study Abroad in France !

Bonjour !

We are a group of 7 high school French students in Vallejo, California, and we

are raising funds to travel abroad to France in March 2023. Our high school is comprised of a majority of non-native English speakers and students from low-income neighborhoods.

In our class, we value the unique cultural and linguistic capital of each student.

Here are some statements from our group:

-Hi, my name is Kheyle. I am 17 years old and I am the first in my family to finish high school and go to college. Currently, I am enrolled in Vallejo High School, a very diverse and open-minded school.

Going to France with my classmates is more than just a field trip. It’s about gaining a new perspective by seeing how other countries live their daily lives. Since my mother and step-father have always wanted to take me on a trip to another state, but just didn’t have the money at hand, being able to go on this trip will be life-changing.

-My name is Zinobia. I am 17 years old. I’m a senior and I’m learning 7 languages currently. I am very outgoing and I have a goofy personality.

This trip is important to me because it can teach me a lot in life. It will be the first time I have traveled out of the country. In the future, I’m hoping to be able to try new foods, see and learn new things, and learn more about Francophone cultures and France.

-My name is Adrian. I’m 16 and I’m passionate about soccer and guitar. I go to Vallejo High School and I’m in the 11th grade. I’ve been taking French for 3 years now, and this year we have the chance to go to France.

This trip is a big opportunity for me. Not many people get to go to France, so I am really excited. Money is still an issue, but we are fundraising to help with the expenses.

-My name is Samantha. I’m 17 years old and it’s my senior year at Vallejo High School. This trip is important to me because it’s an opportunity to experience a new culture and a new way of life.

-My name is Yuliana. I'm 16 years old and I want to go to France because I've never traveled out of the state or country and would love to gain the experience that comes with visiting new places.

The funds raised here will go directly towards purchasing 11 nights at AirBnb's in Paris, Lyon, and Marseille. They will also cover costs for the metro in Paris, traveling by train from Paris to Lyon and to Marseille, emergencies, groceries for group meals, and any expenses that are difficult for our students from lower income homes to cover.
