UPDATED: We Got This (10/18/17)
Toni has been diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer. Doctors at UCSF performed surgery to remove 80% of the tumor in her uterus and she has started chemotherapy, but her prognosis is "incurable" with a maximum of three years. As she fights and fights hard using chemotherapy to keep her going, let us 1) Keep faith and hope and 2) Support this long and costly journey. She's got this, but needs our love, help, and support. #WeGotThis
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)
UPDATED: Back to the fight! (7/16/17)
Toni Maxwell has played an important role in the lives of many. She and her husband Roger worked with the youth in Turlock for several years and offered a place to call home for many teens when they needed it. They continued to support these young people well into their 20s offering them love and support in many ways. Many call her "mom" and she lovingly earned a special name "yom" (your other mother). She worked as a realtor for several years before stepping back to follow her passion and become a nail technician. She has been an incredible blessing to her friends and extended family. For all that she has done for others, she now finds herself in need.
In early 2015, Toni (Nikki to many friends and family) was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer (cancer of the colon). She underwent immediate surgery and has completed two rounds of chemotherapy. Following her second round of chemo, Toni developed an infection that has made her very sick. She completed outpatient treatments through the Emanual Cancer Center in Turlock only to find herself back in the hospital on April 10. Medical bills continued to mount as she fought the infection on top of the cancer. Eventually, she healed and the she seemed to be clear of cancer. Two years later, she began experiencing a great deal of pain. Now, in July 2017, about three months after being told the cancer returned, she has undergone many tests and found herself back in the hospital for five days. She is scheduled to see specialists at UCSF. In addition to the cancer, she faces a mass (possibly a benign fibroid) growing at a rapid pace in her uterus and kidney function issues. She has undergone two procedures to places stents to assist kidney functions. The road is long and she has only just started down it. There are many uncertainties at this point, but one thing is certain she is a fighter and appreciates the love, prayers, and support of her family and friends. Medical bills have already started to mount and insurance covers to a point, but her family is concerned, especially because this will likely include stays in San Francisco at UCSF.
Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Additionally, anything you can donate to offset her mounting medical bills will help. She has not been able to return to work since her 2015 battle and is now back to fighting the biggest fight of her life, and she needs our help. Every penny counts, every dollar joins with others, and we can help her alleviate some of the additional stress. We are Team Toni. Additionally, we now have #WeGotThis wristbands and anyone who is a part of this team can have one. Please message for a wristband.
