*UPDATE* My family has decided to keep Wegayewu here so that the kids will be able to visit him to speak with him. *UPDATE*

Hello, my name is Bethel Tewabe and Wegayewu was my brother-in-law. This past friday, August 5th, he took his kids to go fishing. While there, an 8 year old child went into the water and began struggling. In efforts to save this child from drowning, Wegayewu jumped in. Unfortunately, the current took him and he drowned. The child was safely recovered and transported to UIHC and has been released.

Wegayewu leaves his wife, Teyobesta Tewabe, and three children, Samuel (12), Nebyat (8), and Lucas (6). As well as countless family members and friends located all over the US and back home in Ethiopia.

Wegayewu took care of everyone around him in any way that he could. He had a very big heart, hardworking hands, a very determined mindset, and a smile that could brighten a dark room. He loved spending time with his family and friends, fishing, going on walks, and being outside in nature. He has been there for me in more ways than I can count, a very strong father figure in my life and my first call in times of trouble. He is truly a hero to us all.

We are wanting to transport him to Ethiopia so he can rest at home. Whatever you are able to give is very appreciated and we thank you all for your support.

Please keep our family in your prayers.
