Send Homebound to Film Festivals!
Donation protected
NOTE: Because the original goal was funded so quickly, I have increased it to account for potential travel expenses. Thanks so much!
My name is Cami Woodruff, and I'm the director/creative director, writer, storyboarder, and lead animator of "Homebound".
My goal with this GoFundMe is to allow me to submit the film to a variety of festivals, many of which require entrance fees, an expense I cannot currently afford.
The film can be seen here, with the password '2016fest'.
In 2013, I began working on "Homebound" as my graduate thesis film. Although the project nominally existed so I could receive a master's degree, it has always been much more than that to me.
I have lost several homes in my lifetime. I have also lost pets early in their lives, more than I would like to count. In 2012 and 2013, these factors combined with the loss of my family's farm and the rehoming, deaths, and abandonment of its animals. After months of depression and intrusive thoughts, particularly concerning my own cats, I was diagnosed with purely-obsessional OCD. It was a lot to sort through, and I decided to use my thesis research and film creation as a form of art therapy.
I chose to use cats as the characters because of my mental and emotional relationship to them: they are most often the targets of my intrusive thoughts and obsessions, and my most effective way of combating these is to remind myself of their agency and resourcefulness.
"Homebound" is about moving on. It's about seeing the world around oneself for what it is and learning to accept painful truths. Its message is ultimately hopeful: life does go on after loss, and sometimes the ghosts of the past need to be left behind.
After a year and a half in production stasis, I was finally able to bring the film up to a quality I found acceptable in late 2015. For a few months I have debated on what to do with it, and was finally urged to make a GoFundMe to request assistance in film festival submissions.
I want to express my profound gratitude for any and all who are willing to help. This is a very personal project for me, and your support means everything.
