Our families story began the first week of October 2020, when Hudson Behrens Smith, my 14 month old great nephew, quit walking, crawling and could hardly hold his own head up. After being told by his physician he had a virus, his physician wanted to play it safe sent him to a specialist who then ordered an MRI. 3 weeks later, his parents were told the MRI was cancelled due to the insurance denying the procedure, but  through the grace of God, and his parents persistence by agreeing to pay out of pocket,  the hospital performed the MRI which revealed a large brain tumor.

Approximately, 3 hours later that day, November 25, 2020 the doctors took Hudson in and performed Emergency Surgery removing a very large brain tumor which was blocking the passage of spinal fluid to the brain, something the doctors stated he would not have survived the weekend without the surgery.

On December 1, 2020, our world was once again turned upside down when the Oncologist gave his parents, Derek and Christina Smith-Warrington the news that Hudson had a very aggressive pediatric cancer, Medulloblastoma, which involves his muscle coordination, balance and movement.

Hudson’s Cancer Journey has just begun and unfortunately he will undergo another surgery tomorrow for placement of a shut, PICC line and drain more fluid, then the very aggressive chemotherapy treatments will begin.

One could only imagine the shock and disbelief his parents felt hearing such news, especially around this time of year with young children. They should be planning when they are going to cut down their Christmas tree and hang  the stockings for Santa, not having to worry about out of pocket costs, finances,  or  how they can divide their time so one can stay with Hudson at all times at the hospital and the other with Hudson’s older brother, Roman.

We are asking for donations to help offset uncovered medical expenses where costs can exceed well over thousands of dollars. Any donations received will be focused directly to Hudson’s care over the duration of his treatments including day to day necessities.
