Becky's Hope Fund

Once in a while, in life, you meet someone extraordinary. Someone who, without any question, goes above and beyond for others, puts a smile on the faces of those they encounter and looks out for the wellbeing of everyone around them. For us, this person is our dear friend, sister, daughter, fiance, coworker and loved one, Becky Scott.

For those of you who don’t know Becky’s story, she was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic breast cancer May 2014, at the age of 27. To say her journey through life after the diagnosis has been a rollercoaster would be an understatement. Becky has been through numerous rounds of chemo, clinical trials and harsh treatments, all while continuing to work full-time as an EMT and Paramedic, saving lives and taking care of others.

Things haven’t been easy throughout Becky’s 1.5 years since being diagnosed. She’s lost her hair, has had to deal with the harsh side effects of chemo and faces the realities of her fight everyday. But she's never given up. Never once has she thrown in the towel or let cancer get the better of her. Even after discovering that the cancer spread from her breast, to her liver and then to her brain, she did not let it get her down.

The dictionary defines a fighter as "a person with the will, courage, determination, ability, or disposition to fight, struggle, resist…" That is who Becky is.

On Monday, October 19th, Becky was admitted to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital for liver complications and has since been fighting and receiving chemo from a hospital bed, where she spends her days and nights. Now, more than ever, she needs to know that she is supported, loved and has an army around her to help her get through her biggest struggle. Becky is a fighter. But now she needs an army of fighters to rally around and fight alongside her and encourage her along the way -- just as she has done for others her entire life.

One way we can do this is to help take her mind off of the financial burden of her latest situation. We had recently set up this GoFundMe page to help Becky and her fiance, Matt, pay for some of the expenses for their upcoming wedding on November 20th. But we want to open it back up and see if we can get as many people as we can to help donate to Becky’s fund, and share the link and her story on their Facebook pages to help her with her medical and hospital bills. We hope that the more people who share, the more people will get to know Becky’s story and the more we can lessen her worries.

Every little bit goes a long way, whether it's $5 or a simple 'share'. Since Becky would never ask for anything herself, we need to let her know that she deserves this; she deserves every ounce of support and love from her army of fighters.

Please consider sending lots of love and prayers for Becky. We would be forever grateful.

On behalf of Becky's entire family, all her friends and everyone who knew her, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your donations and prayers. My name is Gina Kramer, I'm from South Jersey, and I'm a longtime friend of Becky's. Her family has decided to use the funds toward a scholarship in her name, for students who wish to enroll in Rowan University's new EMS program through Burlington County College. Becky's family is working directly with Rowan to spearhead the scholarship and help a student follow Becky's footsteps.
