Pedro Castelo and Kostyantyn Storozhenko, are two young adventurers, with a tremendous passion for nature and discover of unknown. We climbed several mountains together, from Pyrenees, Alps, Picos de Europa, Sierra Nevada, Mount Atlas, among others in several countries. We love outdoor life, as well as charity. We are volunteers of ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) which is present in more than 130 countries, that is bringing long-term development programs and immediate emergency / relief response to communities in need through a global office presence.
In August 2017, we went to Serbia through ADRA Portugal and collaborated with the local delegation to understand and meet their needs. We visited 2 refugee camps and experienced the harsh reality, which is experienced by the refugees.
We interviewed the refugees and we know the reasons that led them from their country, the adversities they faced there, as well as those faced all the way to the refugee campe in Serbia, difficulties of staying there and the almost impossible entry into the EU.
According to the 4th June 2017 situation report nº57, total number of refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants in Serbia was 6,618 people, 56% of them are children. There are 18 refugee camps and most of refugees come from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Iraq (according to “The UN Refugee Agency 6 August 2017”). In February of 2017, ADRA Serbia, established a Community Center in Belgrade, in relative proximity to the Asylum Center Krnjaca. ADRA Community Center in Belgrade is providing: school transportation, translators, psychologists, elementary school teachers, social workers, educational integration, languages, music, IT and others. During summer, the Community Center provides the Summer School that helps prepare children for the next school year. Now, every single day they are providing help in the ADRA Community Centre for more than 100 refugees.
ADRA Community Center is preparing its users for labor market, by investing in the development of their talents and providing them with economic empowerment. In cooperation with accredited institutions ADRA is providing Vocational Trainings, where they can acquire the necessary skills and knowledge on job working that can help them get employment in the future.
All refugees that attend classes regularly and complete training successfully will receive an internationally recognized certificate of training conclusion. The certificate is not only recognized by employers in Serbia, but also in other European Union countries.
