It is difficult to believe and painful, almost beyond belief, to realize that Hana and Jason have lost their father, Chris Weckl, unexpectedly. We are deeply, deeply grateful for your kind words, prayers, and expressions of aloha and kokua.
I am the mother of Jason and Hana, and I can say without fear of contradiction that Chris Weckl was a loving and supportive father. He was their rock, the one who held everything together, even when it seemed their world was falling apart. He shared everything he had with them, and worked hard for them, right up until his untimely death. Now they will miss what I have missed, but without having a choice: his presence, his laughter, his hugs, his cooking . . . his guidance and support.
Jason and Hana's father was a true adventurer and outdoorsman. It is some small comfort to know that Chris Weckl was in a place he loved to be, the High Desert, spending time out and away from the city, camping as he loved to do. It is no bad thing to spend one’s final days in an environment one loves.
But this does create a problem Hana and Jason are not prepared to manage.
Chris was young and healthy. His death would be shocking at any time, but was totally unexpected, which means he had no opportunity to make his own final arrangements.
Resources available are slim. And so there are financial issues with meeting Chris’s final expenses. These include memorial expenses, all routine living and rental expenses (which Jason will unexpectedly immediately take over), and very urgent vehicle expenses for Hana.
Toward those ends, a GoFundMe account has been opened. The fund names Jason and Hana Weckl as their beneficiary, but will be managed with oversight from Hana’s mother, Hoku Bray (aka Shawn).
Your generosity at this difficult time is profoundly appreciated. We rely on each other and support each other in the interwoven web of our lives.
Mahalo nui loa for your kokua!
Thank you very much for your help!
