Wecker Family Fire Recovery Fund
On August 18, Sabine and Mike Wecker and their 11-year-old child received an emergency evacuation order: One of the many wildfires currently devastating California took a sudden turn and was heading straight for their mountain home. The three had just minutes to pack up what they could, round up the family dog, and take shelter with Sabine’s mother Paddy, several miles away. The next morning they received word that their house had indeed been consumed in the fire. As this is being posted (the evening of August 19), the entire family, including Paddy (and her three small dogs) are packing up again, as the evacuation zone has come to within one mile of Paddy’s home.
As one of Sabine’s closest friends, Elizabeth (later joined by David!) has witnessed the Wecker family home provide a safe haven and place of celebration for their friends and community. For nearly two decades, they have opened their home and their hearts (and their barn and fire pits!) to us, and given many friends a soft place to land when it was needed. Let’s join together and support them with the full strength of the community they’ve done so much for.
The funds you contribute will go directly toward meeting the family’s immediate needs for shelter, food, clothing, and getting them back online, learning and earning, while they navigate the insurance claim and begin the work of recovering from this disaster and creating a new home. Someday soon, hopefully, we can gather there again to help them fill it with love, music, and wonderful NEW memories!
No contribution is too small: Together, we can do what we could never do alone.
With love and Gromek,
Elizabeth & David
