Webster Groves Skatepark Remodel Project
Donation protected
My name is Peter Vishion. I am a life long Webster Groves resident. I have recently gotten back into rollerblading (due to a mid-life crisis). Over the past 9-months I have been checking out the local skateparks but have spent most of my time at the Webster Groves skatepark. I have gotten to know many of the kids/young adults that frequent the park. Those kids, adults, parents and myself agree that the skatepark is tired and the setup is terrible.
I am raising funds to help the community revamp the park. Preferably a full redo at some point in the near future once municipal grant funds are available. For the time being , we are wanting to retrofit of the existing plan to make it more skate-able until the new park can be constructed. The end goal would be a skate plaza type setting done in concrete. There is another local skatepark (Maplewood) that was redone recently that knocked it out of the park. Webster's skatepark would be the same caliber and somewhat similar setup as that park. The goal would be to incorporate green space into the park. It would look like a somewhat typical park with paths/sidewalks, ledges, benches, small banks, railings and stair sets. But everything would be skate-able. It would be a "Street Skating" skatepark. NOT a vert ramp, half pipe, bowl skatepark. Webster has already stated that the ramp height would be limited to 5'.
Our kids deserve a better place to hone their craft. These are talented kids that need a safe, well constructed spot to skateboard, rollerblade, BMX, roller-skate and scooter.
Some of you who read this will fall into one of the extreme sport categories above. More than half are probably skateboarders. But let's try to set aside what we ride. We really need the entire community to come together and rally for this cause. If we band together we will accomplish a lot more.
TO DONATE DIRECTLY TO THE SKATEPARK FUND YOU CAN WRITE A CHECK (or credit card) TO THE CITY OF WEBSTER GROVES AND JUST NOTE THAT YOUR DONATION SHALL BE APPLIED TOWARDS THE SKATEPARK FUND.
If anyone has interest in helping, not necessarily monetarily. We would love help with planning, legal, design, build etc!! Here is all of my contact info:
