The Cramer Family needs our help.  Dan Cramer has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 metatastic cancer. The cancer was first found in his lungs, but is also in his mouth, throat and brain.  Dan just recently finished radiation and will be going back later in the month for scans and chemotherapy.  The doctors are going after this to try to beat it back and save his life.  Dan is an electrical engineer who has always been hard-working and been thrown a lot of curves lately.  He has been laid off several times in the last few years, but always rebounds and finds new employment.  He recently ran out of his 20 weeks of unemployment and now, cannot work.  Dan is a Vietnam veteran.  He is a quiet, kind, funny, hard-working man.  Linda has been working as a paraprofessional for Huron Valley Schools trying to bring in whatever she can.  After hours, she works to keep things going somehow at home, make meals and advocate for Dan and her family.  Evan just graduated from Kettering University and is job-searching (mechanical engineering!).  He will be able to help out when he gets a job.  Elaine is finishing her junior year in HS, has impeccable grades, is an athlete and wants to go to medical school one day.  Due to unemployment, the Cramers have fallen behind in their mortgage, taxes and other bills.  Linda is doing all she can to restructure things, but things just keep getting tougher.  They’ve already used the “Step Forward Michigan” program, so that is not an option.  The family has just learned they will receive an a service-related disability that usually takes 8 to 12 months to be approved.  However, the bank has told her they will forclose if they do not receive $7300 by JULY 1st. They also owe several thousand dollars on an assessment when roads in their subdivision were redone.    Things are so tight, they cannot afford to make the 70 mile round trip to the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor as often as they would like to see Dan.  No family, let alone a veteran’s family, especially such hard-working people who have given so much to their community, should have to worry about money and that they might lose their home, when they are trying to fight a monster like cancer.
