We will be homeless in 48 hours
Donation protected
Where do I start? We will be homeless by this Sunday the 2nd of January, 2022.
I guess a healthy dose of humility and the admission that I feel as though I have failed my family.
Our income has been seriously impacted by Covid-19 since the beginning of this pandemic. However, even though through all of this, we managed to always pay our rent. After living here for one year and ten months our landlord got promoted back to this area with a “six-figure” income, and we live month to month.
We have raised two adopted boys for the last 11 years and have had custody of our grandson for the past 5 years. We have always strived to provide a strong and stable household for them, however now it has all come crashing down. We have put all our belongings in a storage unit and are preparing to see what living homeless is all about, unfortunately.
The following are some recent text messages:
My recent message to him:
[landlord name redacted],
Just to be 100% transparent, we thought we should let you know that all our attempts to apply for a rental house and apartments for rent have fallen through due to extremely high entry costs, i.e. credit scores >650, income 3x the rent, administrative fees, 1st/last month rent/security deposit, etc.
All this averages out to $5,000 to $6,000 just to get in the door and there is little to no apartment availability due to people facing the same issues, rental housing demands and prices have forced many to flood the apartment market to the point of saturation in Vancouver. We've tried and failed, unfortunately.
I attempted several times to let you know that we rely on our tax refunds to move which average around $8,000 to $10,000 in March to April timeframe. I realize the issue is self-inflicted as we were unwilling to sign a new lease last March for an increase in rent.
So to meet your requirements we've been forced to fill up a 10×15 storage unit with the household furniture/items and will be moved out by the 2nd of January 2022.
Cindy has adopted two boys who are now teenagers, we've had custody of her grandson for the past five years (he loves this home and the neighbors, he doesn't do well with change, he was born addicted to heroin from his mom, I'm a veteran from both gulf wars and we live paycheck to paycheck but we've always made sure you got the rent through the Covid-19 moratorium on eviction, yes we did slide on utilities but something had to give to ensure a roof over the kids head.
We will unfortunately be living in our vehicles with the children. Not to be a jerk but this opportunity for you to move back into your home, making 6 figures, as well, frankly destroyed our lives.
I apologize for laying all that out there. This is what we are going through.
