We saved Sully, but it was expensive
Donation protected
I know there are a million people asking for help with vet bills, but now there are a million and one.
Sully is our 1-1/2 year old Corgi. He is the sweetest boy, but Wednesday morning, he was not his usual self. He wouldn't eat, he just wanted to lie down, and his gums were super pale. We took him to our vet, and they kept him until he could be seen.
The vet said he was super anemic, and she drained 300 ccs of blood out of his lungs. He needed to go to the emergency animal hospital if he was going to make it. The only one in our state is five hours from us. My daughter lost her dog two years ago during COVID, and we didn't want to lose Sully too, so we loaded him up and set off to the ER vet.
We got him there in time, and they were able to figure out what was wrong and stabilize him. Sully somehow got into rat poison, but we have no idea where he would have found it since we got rid of all rat poison on our farm two years ago when the puppy found a piece and gave us a scare.
The vet kept him overnight on oxygen because his lungs were working so hard from being filled.
The end of the story is a happy one--Sully survived!
We are so grateful for the care he received at the Towner Animal Health Clinic and the Red River Animal Emergency Hospital, and especially the fact we get to take him home and love him for a long time to come.
But it was very expensive--nearly $3000, and he'll still need another checkup and blood tests to make sure he's totally recovered.
We never ask for help--not when I got cancer, not when my daughter got diabetes--it just goes against the self-sufficient mindset of a farm family. But this was an unexpected hit to the credit card, so I'm taking a chance that some kind souls will want to help out. Anything we get in excess of our goal will be donated to our local shelter.
Thank you in advance!
