Dear Family, Friends, and We Rockers
My name is Jennifer Dickson and I am one of the owners of We Rock the Spectrum Kids Gym in NE Philly. Many of you already know that I, alongside my mother Barb and my best friend Nicole Denicolo took a huge leap of faith in starting this business in November 2016. For those of you who are not familiar with We Rock the Spectrum let me explain a little about what we offer. Our gym is an indoor play place where children of all abilities can come to play without judgment. All of our equipment is geared towards the special needs community and packed with sensory friendly toys and gadgets that are fun for all. We provide small camp settings, Tot Rock classes, and social skills classes. We also focus on inclusion and offer resources to families outside the gym. We have become our own community and are always there to lend a listening ear and support families with their personal struggles they may be facing, raising a child with a disability. We love seeing these children grow and reach milestones no matter how small, and consider our customers as family.
After three and half years of begin open, we wouldn’t change what we do for anything in the world because we love what we do. We work every day because of our passion; not for a paycheck. On March 14th our world came to a halt, along with the rest of the country. We were asked to close our doors to help contain the spread of Covid 19. Word on the news said we would be closed until April 30. We knew this would be extremely difficult to recover six weeks of lost revenue but were not discouraged. We took that time to rebuild, repaint, and refurbish the gym, as well as cleaning, scrubbing, and disinfecting according to CDC guidelines so that we would be ready to service the community as soon as the stay at home order was lifted. We also began to offer pick-up and local delivery of Melissa and Doug toys for purchase from our Rock Shop to try to generate some revenue.
April was coming to a close when the quarantine date looked like it would shift more towards mid-May. We were beginning to worry because we already couldn’t pay our expenses up to this point. Yesterday the news reported the latest update….. We will not open before June 4th. This news was soul crushing, because we will never be able to financially recover from such a great loss of revenue for this length of time.
This is why we are now reaching out to anyone who reads this. We have tried every resource available, but have not received any government or private relief. We have poured our hearts into this business and do not want to take such an ESSENTIAL resource away from our children and community; but we need your help. Please consider donating to our “Go Fund Me” campaign to help cover the expenses that continue to build. Every dollar will make a difference. Please share our campaign with friends and family and hopefully people we have never met will see the good we try to do and offer to lend a helping hand. Thank you in advance, and stay safe and healthy!
