We never ask for help but I think it is fair to say that we are in over our heads this time and are reaching out to all you for support, prayers, and guidance from all of you as we are in serious need of it.
On Monday night, Dustin and I received that dreaded late night call that nobody ever wants to receive. We were advised that Dustin's dad, Thomas McDonald, was in the hospital and would be transported to the Halifax hospital right away as he was in critical condition. My father in law, Tom, suffered a brain aneurism and is currently in a coma. We were not able to get any other information at the time since his family does not have a cell phone to contact them personally. Three hours or so went by and we had no idea what had happened or what the situation was. Finally, we ended up hearing back from Dustin's stepmom. She said it was just a fluke she brought him in because he was acting strange. The doctors said that if she had waited he would have succumbed to the brain bleed within a few hours. The next day (Feb 14) Tom had surgery to drain some blood from the brain at which point they found 2 tumors. We were advised that these rumors could not be removed as they are in a very delicate part of the brain. Tom remained unconscious but his survival rate increased from 25% the day previous to 50% after surgery. He is such a tough man as he continues to make small strides. Yesterday we were informed that he seemed to be improving and they were able to remove the breathing tube. Just when we thought he was doing better and his condition improving....we find out this morning (Feb 16) that the tumors are cancerous and that the cancer has spread to the whole body.
We need your help....I am currently on maternity leave with our 6 month old baby and we are currently in the process of moving so financially we are not able to cover all the costs for Dustin to be able to go be with his dad and stepmom during this critical time. The costs of the whole trip during these types of emergencies are extremely high. We are reaching out to you guys to please help us get Dustin to Nova Scotia and help pay some costs. PLEASE your help is the only way we can ensure Dustin gets there on time. This has been an overwhelming time of emotions and struggles.
Please keep Tom McDonald in your prayers! Thank you in advance,
With love from,
