Impoverished in the best of times, the 12 families living in small houses of corrugated aluminum and cinderblocks on the banks of the river in Rancho Ondo, El Salvador were already on the brink of disaster after being deprived of income by the 70 days of the draconian, nationwide quarantine.
Just then, when these poor families were at their most vulnerable, Tropical cyclone turned their misery into a nightmare. The meters of rain turned the tranquil river into a raging torrent, which soon burst its banks and flooded the precarious community.
Almost all of their meager possessions were swept away or destroyed by the raging water, which literally engulfed their homes: cookware, refrigerators for those fortunate to have them, beds, clothing, food, family photos,
and even government identification were lost. Then the unthinkable happened: as the water rose, their homes themselves were destroyed.
Now, a week after the water finally subsided, all 12 families—mothers, fathers, babies, children, grandparents—are crammed into the confines of the one small house that was not destroyed by the flood. One kitchen cooks for 12 families. Bereft of all their scant possessions, and deprived of any means of supporting themselves, they are desperate for aid. The government, however, is nowhere to be found.
Please donate to this cause so that we can provide these families with the food they need to survive, and the building materials they need to rebuild their homes. The few NGOs active in the country are already stretched to the breaking point. The government is mired in a constitutional crisis caused by their authoritarian handling of the pandemic. These people need our help. We will ensure that every cent goes to the necessities of these families, with zero administrative overhead or inefficiency.

Justo entonces, cuando estas familias pobres estaban en su punto más vulnerable, el ciclón tropical convirtió su miseria en una pesadilla.
