Cashuel Scott is currently in the intensive care unit at Phoenix Children's Hospital. He is attached to a ventilator and unable to breathe on his own. Cashuel is an Aavid Student, he has a passion for basketball and plays on the Shadow Mountain Matadors and club AAU. During the first week of April, Cashuel's mom noticed a change in her son. At first she thought he was just going through some teenage stuff. Things started to become progressively worse and Cashuel went from a normal teenage boy to an out of control depressed teen, His mother was not sure what was happening and started to become concerned about his behavior. She took him to the emergency room. They ran some tests and were given some medication to help treat his depressed state. Things got a little better, but something was still very wrong with Cashuel.
On Saturday May 16, 2020 Cashuel and his mom Jinika came to my house so the boys could hang out. My son Wyatt and Cashuel swam, played some basketball when Cashuel said he had a headache and told my son Wyatt to get his mom. Cashuel started to display symptoms of being unresponsive to extreme restlessness, and paranoia. His mother took him home to rest. The next day, he experienced Hallucinations, Hysterical and emotional outcries, and was refusing to eat or drink. His mother called 911, they had to sedate Cashuel to transport him to the hospital.
Once at the hospital, they began to run tests once again. While waiting for some answers, Cashuel suffered a seizure. He was then transported to Phoenix Children's Hospital. Cashuel was put through more CT scans, MRI's, and Bloodwork. After speaking with The neurologist, Cashuel's symptoms seemed to relate to Autoimmune Encephalitis.
Autoimmune encephalitis refers to a group of conditions that occur when the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy brain cells that lead to inflammation in the brain. They attempted to do a Spinal Tap, to help confirm the diagnosis, but Cashuel's vitals began to crash and they had to stop. They still do not have a definite diagnosis but will be running more tests.
Cashuel's mom is a single parent that was off work due to the covid-19 pandemic, She was called back to work, but has not been able to due to her son's illness.
I am setting up this GO-FUND-ME account to help them pay for their medical and living expenses.
